As a candidate for Place 3, I realize we are nearing the end of the first decade in a changing global economy. The work place is changing as is the way people work. Education must keep up with the change and prepare all children for the workforce whether they go directly into the workplace, technical/trade school or a university. We must prepare our children to think and problem solve. Working to continue to improve academics in our district will be a priority. Our greatest challenge is our tremendous fast growth. Long range planning will help us utilize all of our resources and think outside the box to solve our challenges while being fiscally responsible to the taxpayers. I believe every voice should be heard in an open and transparent government body as the LISD school board. A board member should never forget the reason he or she is serving is the child and the people who are supporting the district with tax dollars.

My thorough knowledge of LISD after regularly attending school board meetings since 1992 and my participation in volunteer activities will help in guiding our district into the future. Because I believe it takes involved parents, teachers and community for all children to reach the highest goals of academic achievement I co founded Academic Advocates in 2000 (www.academicadvocates.org). I participated in the year-long LISD Leadership, that the district is educating community members on the inter-workings of the district. Most recently, I attended the Statewide Educational Summit.

My family has lived in the district for 24 years and my husband Robert is a native Austinite. My children Emily and Bobby began kindergarten and finished high school in LISD. Both children participated in athletics beginning in middle school. Emily was on the CPHS varsity tennis team all 4 years and is currently a junior at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin and is playing on the tennis travel team. Bobby was on the CPHS football team that went State Quarter Finals three years ago and is a sophomore at the University of Texas at Austin.

I would be honored to serve the community of LISD.
